With the need to print from anywhere growing, many printer manufacturers have released their own mobile printing apps. Canon is the latest to jump on the bandwagon with the Canon Print Service.
The new app will allow users to print from any Android KitKat (version 4.4) enabled smartphone or tablet as well as selected HP Slate devices to select Canon printers.
Canon Print Service works on top of Android’s existing mobile printing framework and enables users to print business and personal documents and photos over a wireless connection.
The app is an ideal solution for existing Canon customers, as those who own a compatible printer do not need to upgrade their printers or download new driver software.
You will be able to control a variety of printing options from the app, including paper size, number of copies and printing orientation.
According to Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager of Business Imaging Solutions Group at Canon USA, “With the release of Canon Print Service, we are demonstrating our commitment to existing Canon customers especially by offering them a valuable solution they didn't have when they originally bought their product."
Canon Print Service works with printers in the Canon PIXMA, imageCLASS, imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE series. There’s no word yet on whether you’ll be able to monitor the level of your Canon ink or toner cartridges from the app.
You can download the app from the Google Play store here. You will have to activate Canon Print Services after installing the app as it is not activated on installation.
