Do you know what’s going on with your company’s printing? A recent survey by printer manufacturer, OKI, has revealed that 63% of SMEs have very little understanding of the printing costs for their organisation as a whole. The survey was undertaken at the Elite Business show that was held in London in April.
According to OKI, the results of the survey show why SMEs struggle with out of control printing expenses and missed opportunities to save money and increase their efficiency. This lack of knowledge could be the reason why many companies don’t know how to manage, control or measure their daily printing costs, including printer ink and toner cartridges.
Furthermore, only 15% of those interviewed for the survey said that their printing costs could be predicted accurately. OKI UK’s Marketing Director, Graham Lowes said that the findings of the survey are surprising considering many small businesses have not recovered fully from the recent economic recession.
The trend of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) has also affected printing costs. Almost half (49%) of the people interviewed found that printers that are supposed to support mobile printing do not or are not enabled to support printing from a smartphone or tablet, which can lead to wasted paper and wasted toner or ink.
OKI also revealed another survey that showed that 93% of people still print on a daily basis, so the dream of a paperless office is still far from a reality.
So what can small business owners do to cut down on their printing costs? There are several options available, such as using energy efficient multi-function printers, using compatible printer cartridges or using managed print services, such as those offered by OKI.
