Are you still using an old, clunky toner printer in your offices? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. A recent study undertaken by Epson Hungary found that 62% of small businesses are still using toner printers to do their printing.
The study, conducted in February this year, revealed some interesting things about the printing habits of small to medium business in Hungary. The results of the study are based on surveys that were sent to business people who employed 50 or fewer people and who used 5 or fewer printers.
The most interesting finding was that 62% of companies still used toner printers, while only 31% of businesses used ink printers. According to Epson Hungary, the ratio shows that many businesses still have a traditional approach to printing technology.
Miklós Fábián, Epson Hungary CEO, said that although toner printers and toner cartridges is still a reliable and widely used technology, recent advances in technology are leading ink printers and ink cartridges to replace laser printers.
The study also found that many small business owners were not aware of their daily printing costs and their cost per page, a trend OKI noticed when they undertook their own survey (see Do You Know How Much Your Business Spends On Printing? While many business owners are using managed print services and buying refurbished printing equipment, Mr Fábián states that using modern ink printers and ink cartridges could reduce printing costs by up to 50%.
The typical operating costs of an Epson colour printer and Epson ink cartridges is about 2 cents per page, while monochrome printers run to about 3 cents per page, according to Epson’s company statistics.
The choice between using ink printers and toner printers ultimately comes down to personal preference.
