Now You Can Doodle In The Air With The World's Smallest 3D Pen

3D printing has taken the world by storm, and now artists and doodlers can jump on the 3D printing bandwagon too. Imagine taking your pencil sketch and turning it into a three dimensional work of art without having to go the route of traditional sculpture. With the Lix 3D Printing Pen, you can.

The idea of a 3D printing pen all started with the 3Doodler. The 3Doodler reached its Kickstarter funding goal in March, 2013 and quickly went on to become the favourite tool of 3D printing hobbyists and artists alike. The first of the 3D printing pens, it set the benchmark for amazing things you could create by simply drawing in the air.

And now another 3D printing pen is on the horizon. According to the designers, the Lix 3D Printing Pen is smaller than any other 3D printing pen available and its super compact design allows it to be used anywhere.

How does it work?

The Lix 3D Printing Pen works just like a 3D printer. Plastic filament is heated and extruded from the tip of the pen, allowing you to create rigid, freestanding structures simply by drawing them. The plastic filament is inserted into the back of the pen and heated in the body of the pen.

It can be charged via a wall charger with a USB adapter, making it more portable than other 3D printing pens available. Its smaller size also makes it more comfortable to hold and use.

The technology used in the Lix Pen was created from scratch in order to reduce the size of the mechanical parts and to fit them in all together.

Who can use it?

Lix lists a few possible applications on their Kickstarter campaign. The list includes fashion design, architecture, jewellery, interior decorating and arts and crafts. The Lix Pen could be used by anyone who loves to experiment and doodle. If it is as easy to use as the creators claim, the Lix 3D Pen may very well replace traditional printing and printer cartridges when it comes to creating prototypes and design drafts.

They have reached their campaign goal on Kickstarter and there are still 7 days left on the campaign, if you want to back them.
