IT market analysts, Context, released recent sales figures for original toner cartridges for the first 22 weeks of this year. They found that sales have increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2013. This is largely due to the increase in Average Selling Prices (ASPs), which increased by 5% year-on-year, despite a 3% decline in distribution sales.

Unit sales and revenues of original toner increased by 16% and 6% respectively across Western European nations like Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK.

This effect was not witnessed in the compatible toner cartridge market, where ASPs declined by 9%.

HP toner cartridges sales declined by 7%, the largest decline in the market, while Xerox toner saw the largest increase in sales with a 32% increase year-on-year.

HP toner, however, still holds the largest portion of market share at 46%, with Samsung toner cartridges in second place at 17% and Lexmark toner and Brother toner holding joint third at 8% each.

According to Zivile Brazdziunaite, Imaging Market Analyst at Context, original toner cartridge sales are recovering after the downturn during the recent recession, which has helped increase some manufacturers’ sales.
