So you’ve replaced the toner cartridge in your Brother printer and followed our handy toner reset guide but there is still a little LED light blinking and you still can’t print. Before you decide to throw the printer out of the window and start again, remember that you will also need to reset the drum unit counter on your Brother printer. The drum LED will blink if the Brother drum unit is near the end of its life or if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the Brother drum unit.
Resetting the drum counter is actually very simple and there are two options depending on the printer model you have. We’ll have a look at how to reset the drum unit count on both Brother HL and MFC printer models.
For Brother HL printer models:
With the printer on, open the front cover of the printer.
Press and hold down the ‘Go’ button for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up.
Once all 4 LEDs are lit, release the ‘Go’ button.
For Brother MFC printer models:
With the printer on, open the front cover of the printer
Press the ‘Options’ key on the control panel. The display will show ‘REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO’.
Press 1 to reset the drum count.
If your printer does not have a numeric keypad, use the arrow keys to scroll to the correct option and press 'OK'.
If you follow these instructions, you should be able to carry on printing. If you do get stuck or have any problems, you can always call or email our technical support team and they’ll gladly help you troubleshoot any toner and ink related issues you may be experiencing.
