The rise of smart technology has seen smart phone operating systems being moved from the mobile realm and used in many different appliances. Android and Samsung are leading the pack, with Samsung creating what they call the first Android powered printer.

The new multi-function printers (MFPs) were introduced at consumer electronics tradeshow, IFA in Berlin earlier this month. The new Smart MultiXpress series has been designed to make business printing simpler and faster with a variety of features including standard options like scan, copy, fax and print.

The most impressive feature in the printers, though, is the integration with the Android operating system that makes the printers "more independent, intuitive and scalable for all types of business environments" according to Samsung.

The printers can connect directly to the web without the need for a PC via the 10.1-inch full touchscreen, making access to and printing from web browsers, maps and emails easier. The tablet combines Android’s familiar easy-to-use touchscreen with options specific to printing such as "Scan & Send" and "Job Status".

There are ten new models in the four separate ranges. The X4300 series includes the X4300LX, X4250LX and the X4220RX A3 colour printers boast a print speed of 30, 25 and 22 pages per minute (ppm) respectively and support automatic double-sided printing.

All the printers in the range are equipped with Dual-Scan Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), which allows you to scan up to 100 double sided documents per minute in colour and 120 documents per minute for black and white.

The printers all come with Samsung’s Rendering Engine for Clean Page (ReCP) which has been designed to improve image quality and clarity. The Samsung toner cartridges use Polymerised Toner technology for sharper, glossier and more vivid colour prints.

The K4350 series of A3 monochrome MFPs includes the K4350LX, K4300LX and the K4250RX. The K4350LX can print up to 35 ppm, while the K4350 and K4250RX have a print speed of 30 and 25 ppm respectively. The printers support double-sided printing as well as double sided scanning with Dual-Scan ADF.

The M5370 series and the M4580 series A4 monochrome printers include the M5370LX, the M4370LX, M4580FX and the M4583FX which are designed to be used in smaller offices. The printers are all equipped with Dual-Scan ADF technology and have automatic duplexing.

The M5370LX has a print speed of 53 ppm, the M4370LX has a print speed of 43 ppm while the M4580FX and M4583FX both have a print speed of 45 ppm.

The printers will only be initially available in the United States and Europe and there is no news yet on when they’ll be available in the African and Asian markets.
