Despite a higher awareness of how wasting paper impacts the environment, more and more businesses are not managing their paper use efficiently (see One in Five Businesses Admit to Overusing Paper). In light of this, Xerox recently announced two new services designed to help reduce paper consumption in the office.
The Xerox Print Awareness tool is a software tools designed to make you think about your paper use. The tool first asks you how many copies or prints you think you make in a month and then gives you the actual figures.
Based on your printing profile, the Print Awareness tool allocates monthly print points to you. Every time you print, points are removed from your allocation, making you become more aware of what and how you print (a double-sided document only uses one print point). Users will be able to compare their usage with that of their colleagues. The tool also provides suggestions to improve printing habits.
Xerox Digital Alternatives, on the other hand, allows workers to move smoothly between the paper and digital world. The tool provides users with alternatives to using paper documents for everyday tasks, including filling in forms and signing documents.
The read function integrates e-reader features into the system, allowing users to read scanned or downloaded documents on their devices. It will also allow users to read documents across multiple, linked devices, allowing them to pick up where they left off.
Using the Digital Alternatives tool will also earn users print points on the Print Awareness tool. Both of these tools are designed to encourage users to use less paper, thereby cutting down on paper consumption worldwide.
